At GVF's 2013 Sustainability Breakfast, GVF recognized over 30 companies and organizations with its 4th Annual Sustainable Awards, which is awarded to organizations for their outstanding achievement in implementing programs that provide and promote commuting alternatives and their employees and community. This year's applicants represented over 60,000 employees with close to 300 different sustainable programs that have been implemented or are being offered at worksites. To date, GVF has recognized 72 organizations that represent over 100,000 employees.
GVF was thrilled to partner with 6abc Action News again this year and have their lead meteorologist, David Murphy, be the master of ceremonies for the awards. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Regional Administrator for Mid-Atlantic Region 3, Shawn Garvin, also presented at the event and talked about the importance of businesses and communities working together to create a more sustainable environment. Mr. Garvin praised GVF for its leadership in offering this type of recognition for its partners, as well as citing GVF as a model organization to follow.
"Congratulations to all of our 2013 sustainability award winners. It has been such a pleasure to watch this event and our award winners' activities grow. What is particularly inspiring is to see these award winners working on improving our planet while focusing on mobility. I also want to thank David Murphy and 6abc for their continued support and Shawn Garvin of the EPA for participating in this year's awards program as it was the best one yet," said Rob Henry, GVF Executive Director.
