New Web site Designed to Educate Public on Area Trail Network
Posted by Carissa Bobenchik May 31, 2012Avid bicyclists, as well as recreational bikers, have a new tool to use to figure out the Philadelphia area's extensive bicycle and pedestrian trail network. At a press conference today, a new Web site was unveiled by the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia - http://connectthecircuit.org/.
According to their Web site, once users connect the 750 miles of The Circuit, Greater Philadelphia will have a trail network unlike any other in the country -- connecting the urban, suburban and rural communities of the fifth largest metropolitan region in the US. The Circuit will make our region stronger by providing a place for healthy transportation and recreation, connecting our communities to green space, and making our neighborhoods more attractive places to live and work.
GVF's mission is to "advocate and promote a viable transportation network for the region's economic vitality." Transportation network means more than just roadways - trails like this in our region are so very important, and give commuters a "greener" transportation option. By keeping open space, and connecting major employment centers (like King of Prussia and Center City Philadelphia) the economic vitality that is mentioned in our mission will continue to flourish. These healthy and safe transportation alternatives are vital to the success of our region.
