Weeknight Lane Closures on I-76 at South Street Interchange in Philadelphia for Three Weeks for Overhead Bridge Construction by City of Philadelphia
King of Prussia – Weeknight lane closures are scheduled on Interstate 76 at the South Street Interchange in Philadelphia for three weeks beginning Monday (Aug. 9) for overhead bridge construction by the City of Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said today.
Eastbound and westbound I-76 will be reduced from two lanes to one at the South Street Interchange on Mondays through Fridays from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Intermittent 15-minute traffic stoppages also may occur each morning from midnight to 5 a.m. The restrictions will be in place the weeks of Aug. 9-16; Aug. 16-20; and Aug. 23-27.
Over these next three weeks, lane closures on westbound I-76 at South Street will not start until 11:00 p.m. on nights when the Phillies and Eagles play at the stadium complex in south Philadelphia.
I-76 motorists are advised to allow additional time to travel through the construction area or use an alternate route because backups will occur.
The contractor’s schedule is dependent on the weather.
This operation is part of the City of Philadelphia’s $67 million project to construct the new South Street Bridge.
PennDOT reminds motorists they can log on to 511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions on I-76 and other major highways before heading out.
