The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today announced that Orvilla Road will be closed and detoured between Allentown Road and Welsh Road in Towamencin Township, Montgomery County beginning at 12 p.m. Wednesday, August 11, for roadway reconstruction. Orvilla Road will be closed for approximately two months.
In conjuction with the closing of Orvilla Road, PennDOT will reopen Allentown Road between Orvilla Road and Keller Road at 12 p.m. tomorrow.
During construction, Orvilla Road through traffic will be detoured over Allentown Road, Route 463 (Forty Foot Road), and Welsh Road. Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone. Motorists are advised to allow extra time when travel through the area.
The closure of Orvilla Road is part of PennDOT’s $3.3 million project to realign and improve the intersection of Allentown, Troxel and Orvilla roads.
PennDOT’s contractor has been working since April 2009 to realign Troxel Road to a new location so that it lines up with Orvilla Road at the intersection with Allentown Road. In addition, left turn lanes are being added on all four legs of the intersection; a westbound right turn lane is being added on Allentown Road; and new traffic signals will be installed at the intersection.
Allentown Road carries approximately 14,000 vehicles a day through the intersections with Troxel and Orvilla roads, while the average daily traffic volume on Troxel Road at the intersection is 3,300 and Orvilla Road is 5,500.
K.E. Siefert, Inc. of Langhorne, Bucks County, is the general contractor on the $3,274,932 project that is financed with 100 percent federal funds. The engineering design and property acquisition phases of the project were funded by Towamencin Township. Construction is scheduled to finish in September 2010.
PennDOT reminds motorists they can log on to 511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions on major highways before heading out.
