I-476 Southbound Lane Closures this Weekend in Montgomery County For Traffic Pattern Change Between Schuylkill River Bridge and I-76
King of Prussia – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today announced that overnight lane closures are scheduled this weekend (Aug. 7-8) on southbound Interstate 476 in Montgomery County to move two lanes of southbound traffic into a new pattern between the Schuylkill River Bridge (Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge) and the Interstate 76 Interchange. The southbound side of I-476 will be reduced from two lanes to one from 8 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 7) to 11 a.m. Sunday (Aug. 8) for the relocation of barriers, eradication of traffic lines, painting of new lines and the shifting of two lanes of traffic over to the newly rebuilt outside half of the highway from the river bridge to the I-76 Interchange. From 10 p.m. Sunday (Aug. 8) to 5 a.m. Monday (Aug. 9), the southbound side of I-476 will be reduced from two lanes to one from the river bridge to I-76 for additional traffic line painting. In addition, the southbound I-476 “express lane”, which runs on the northbound side of I-476 from just south of the Pennsylvania Turnpike’s Mid-County Interchange to I-76, will be closed from 10 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 12) to 5 a.m. Friday (Aug. 13) for construction activity. Southbound I-476 motorists are advised to allow more time for travel because backups and delays are expected to occur during the overnight operations. This work is part of PennDOT’s $71.7 million project to reconstruct 3.5 miles of I-476 from just south of the turnpike’s Mid-County Interchange to the I-76 Interchange in Plymouth Township, West Conshohocken Borough and Lower Merion Township. PennDOT’s contractor has been working since March 2010 to rebuild the outside half of southbound I-476. Allan A. Myers, Inc. of Worcester, Montgomery County, is the general contractor on the project which is financed with 100 percent federal funds. For more information, visit www.476blueroute.com. PennDOT reminds motorists to log on to 511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions on I-476 and other major highways before heading out.
