• EASTBOUND TYBURN ROAD OVER WARNER ROAD TO REMAIN CLOSED TO TRAFFIC
|
|
|
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today announced that eastbound Tyburn Road is closed at the bridge over Warner Company Road due to bridge deck damage. A posted detour takes eastbound Tyburn Road motorists over Route 13, Route 1 and Pennsylvania Avenue. Eastbound Tyburn Road remains open to local traffic up to the bridge.
PennDOT opened Tyburn Road to one lane of eastbound and westbound traffic between Route 13 and Pennsylvania Avenue on July 22. Eastbound Tyburn Road was closed to traffic on February 12, 2010 due to structural damage with the concrete deck on the bridge over Amtrak.
PennDOT is currently working on a $12.4 million project to rehabilitate five bridges on Tyburn Road. The bridges being repaired span Newbold Road, Old Tyburn Road, Warner Company Road, Conrail, and Pennsylvania Avenue. The bridge over Amtrak, which is presently closed to eastbound traffic, will be rebuilt under a separate contract.
“We worked since last May to reopen eastbound Tyburn Road to traffic by reconstructing shoulders to accommodate traffic,” PennDOT District Executive Lester C. Toaso. “But a hole developed yesterday on the shoulder of the bridge deck over Warner Company Road that prevents us from safely running traffic over it.”
The Tyburn Road Bridge over Warner Company Road was built in 1955. The three-span, steel I-beam structure is 129 feet long and 82 feet wide. It carries 6,270 vehicles a day.
Neshaminy Constructors, Inc. of Feasterville, Pa. is the general contractor on the project that is financed with 100 percent state funds. The work is expected to be finished by October 17, 2011
PennDOT reminds motorists they can log on to 511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions on major highways before heading out.
