Daytime and Nighttime Lane Closures Scheduled on Route 1 Twin Bridges in Philadelphia Next Week
King of Prussia – Motorists traveling on the Route 1(Roosevelt Expressway) Twin Bridges over the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia will face daytime and nighttime lane closures next week (July 26-30) for bridge construction, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) said today.
One lane will be closed on the northbound Route 1 Bridge on Monday through Friday (July 26-30) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for bridge deck demolition. On the southbound Route 1 Bridge, one lane will be closed Monday through Friday (July 26-30) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Monday through Thursday (July 26-29) from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for bridge deck demolition. The southbound Route 1 Bridge will be reduced from three lanes to one from 8 p.m. Friday, July 30 to 5 a.m. Saturday, July 31 for the pouring of a new concrete barrier.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling on the Route 1 bridges because traffic slowdowns will occur.
The work is part of PennDOT’s $10.7 million project to rehabilitate the deck, superstructure and substructure of the Route 1 Twin Bridges over the Schuylkill River. This project is financed with federal funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
Buckley and Company, Inc. of Philadelphia is the general contractor on the $10,760,387 project. Construction is expected to finish by February 2011.
PennDOT reminds motorists they can log on to 511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions on major highways before heading out.
