The SMT Coalition is a collaboration of municipalities, private-sector businesses and public sector entities (PennDOT, the Pennsylvania Turnpike, the Pennsylvania State Police, etc).
Mission:
To offer a forum in which the business community, municipal, county and state officials can cooperatively address and seek a resolution of traffic related problems affecting the South Eastern Montgomery County area (Abington, Cheltenham, Jenkintown, Rockledge, Springfield, Upper Dublin, Whitemarsh). By enhancing mobility and safety, through the reduction of congestion and pollution, the Southeastern Montgomery County Transportation Coalition helps to promote the area’s orderly growth, sustain its quality of life, and ensure its continued economic vitality.
Goals and Objectives:
- To bring together the Southeastern Montgomery County’s municipalities and businesses so that transportation and land use information sharing can be promoted and enhanced.
- To Represent the transportation needs and interests of the business community and residents through the involvement in the municipal, county and state transportation planning process.
- To Promote and coordinate congestion management strategies designed to reduce the growth of peak hour traffic.
- To Actively seek transportation grants and other opportunities where multiple municipalities can work together.
Monitor local transportation conditions in order to assess their impact on future highway and transit needs, and alert public officials to opportunities for remedial action.
